Private as self-payer

How does it work and which examinations are involved?

Two appointments are required for the BASIS check-up due to its scope:

1st appointment | approx. 1.0 - 1.5 h:

  • Blood sample (complete blood count, GOT, GPT, GGT, lipase, creatinine incl. GFR, cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, uric acid, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, calcium, potassium, sodium, iron, blood sugar, HbA1c, CRP, ferritin, TSH, Quick, PTT, INR, NtproBNP, lipoprotein A)
  • Urine analysis with microalbumin
  • Medical history interview
  • Physical examination
  • Bioelectrical measurement of body composition (BIA)
  • Ultrasound of the heart
  • Resting ECG
  • LZ-EKG
  • LZ blood pressure
  • ABI measurement
  • Pulse wave velocity analysis

2nd appointment | approx. 1.0 - 1.5 h:

  • Stress echocardiography (if the sound quality is poor, an exercise ECG is planned as an alternative)
  • Ultrasound of the neck vessels
  • Thyroid sonography

Final discussion

Which examination devices are used?

Ultrasound

We examine you using the latest technology. Phillips Affiniti CVx STd. is available for your ultrasound examination.

Exercise ECG:

The Ergoselect 12 from Ergoline and the PhillipsA ultrasound device with integrated blood pressure measurement are available for the exercise ECG and are approved for a patient weight of up to 200 kg. The ECG is recorded via a continuous 12-channel lead and ultrasound recordings are made during exercise, enabling early detection of circulatory disorders in the heart caused by wall movement disorders.

Body fat analysis (BIA measurement)

The measurement is carried out using the Seca mBCA 555 high-precision scale, which is equipped with the latest technology and is approved for patients weighing up to 300 kg. The scale delivers the measurement result within a few seconds. Fat and fat-free mass, total body water, extracellular water, intracellular water and skeletal muscle mass are analyzed.

ABI measurement (pAVK screening)

To measure the ankle-brachial index (ABI), we work with the innovative complete solution from Boso, the boso ABI System 100. The device also measures the pulse wave velocity (PWV), which provides information about vascular stiffness and is therefore a further indication of the presence of arteriosclerosis or a prognostic marker for the development of arteriosclerosis

What should you look out for before the appointment?

  • Please wear sportswear for the second appointment (you may work up a sweat during the exercise ECG) and bring a towel to dry off after the exercise if necessary
  • Please come to the check-up sober

When is it necessary to repeat the check-up?

We generally recommend a Cardio Check-Up once a year. This allows you to keep a close eye on your heart health. If disease processes are detected at an early stage, they can often be treated well or even cured.

Will the costs be covered by my health insurance?

The Cardio Check-up is billed in accordance with the current scale of fees for doctors (GOÄ). You will receive a medical service statement by post. Unfortunately, cash payments are not possible.

Private health insurance usually covers the entire cost of the examination. If you are unsure as to whether the costs will be covered, please clarify this with your health insurance company in advance.

The statutory health insurance companies offer a separate preventive check-up every three years in a very reduced form (see Check-up 35).
